Types of fractures
Bones are usually strong and rigid, but they do bend or give way when an external force puts pressure on it. If the pressure is too great, the bones tend to break. This condition causes a fracture. The severity of a fracture is determined by the amount of force that caused the break. In case the bone's breaking point has exceeded very slightly, then the bone may crack rather than break, however, if the force is extreme, for example in an auto-mobile crash or a gunshot, then the bone may shatter.

Common types of fractures include:

  • Stable Fracture
  • Open, Compound Fracture
  • Transverse Fracture
  • Oblique Fracture
  • Comminuted Fracture
